Registration is now officially open for the Christian Game Developers Conference 2011, held from July 7-9 at George Fox University near Portland, Oregon.

I’m all signed up and really looking forward to attending this year. I’ve kept my eye on this conference for a few years now, and it looks like for this 10th anniversary year they’re really pulling out all the stops and hoping to make it a event to remember. I’ve increasingly come to the realisation that the market for Christian entertainment is dominated by the USA (just type “Christian games” into Google Insights For Search to see what I mean), and I think it’s really important to get try and get more of a feel for the culture out there, and also of course to make some face-to-face contacts with those people who’ve had the gumption to get on and release some Christian games, however successful (or otherwise) they may have been.

So don’t miss out – sign up today!

One Response to Christian Game Developers Conference 2011

    Hello Andy,
Welcome to the new CGDC site. John Bergquist sent me the link to your blog post about the conference. Thank you for writing about it. I think that more people from outside the USA should be making Christian games because we just plain need more of them Christians around the world need them and sometimes Christian games can be good evangelistic tools, but could you clarify your point… “I’ve increasingly come to the realization (U.S. spelling) that the market for Christian entertainment is dominated by the USA, and I think it’s really important to get try and get more of a feel for the culture out there…”? I think our (the USA) domination of the Christian entertainment market may have to do with our wealth and population size, but there might be a more subtle point of which came first, the chicken or the egg. Is this market driven by supply or demand? I know that the supply of Christian games is very small compared to the potential market. There are many factors that go into this imbalance. This site and conference will connect you with many people who can speak to this. Also, the conference/organization seeks to reach out to and support Christians who work in the secular game industry and are not involved in creating christian games. This is very important to us. Sometimes these people have monumental struggles with their faith as they feel isolated as they might be operating under the unchallenged assumption that they are the only Christian in their workplace. People in many fields keep their Christianity to themselves or downplay it because of this assumption, and even if it is true, receiving support from us can sometimes help them decrease their isolation and connect them enough to the body of Christ for them to be able to be more open and live out their Christianity in front of people at work and the rest of their lives.
Sorry for the long post, I tend to have a lot to say :)
    -Lydia
